Immigration and Customs Enforcement or “ICE” is part of the Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”). ICE has the power to detain individuals who are present in the United States without proper papers, or who have committed certain crimes.
If you are in ICE custody, your immigration case will be heard by a judge in immigration court in what is called “deportation” or “removal proceedings.”
During removal proceedings you can apply for immigration bond at a special hearing. At an immigration bond hearing, the judge hears evidence about whether you are a danger to the community and about your ties to the United States.
If you are in removal proceedings, you will have a trial to determine your legal options for staying in the United States. These options are highly specific to each case.
If you or your loved one has been detained by ICE, call our immigration attorney to see if immigration bond is possible and to see what options you have for remaining in the United States.
